IGNITE TRAVEL GROUP AND TEQ CAMPAIGN DELIVERS VITAL BOOST TO TROPICAL NORTH QUEENSLAND ECONOMY

A Relief campaign launched by Ignite Travel Group (ITG) and Tourism & Events Queensland (TEQ) to support weather affected communities in North Queensland, has generated an estimated over $7 Million in gross sales and in-destination spend, to support the local tourism industry and wider community.  Further, ITG raised over $20,000 for the St Vincent de Paul Society (Vinnies) North Queensland Flood Appeal through contributions from each holiday package sold during the Relief campaign and through fundraising events run by the ITG staff.

Ignite Travel Group, a local Queensland company, was engaged by TEQ alongside Whitsundays Tourism, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Townsville Enterprise to encourage travellers to visit North Queensland and support local tourism operators with the campaign message ‘there’s never been a better time’.

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Thomas said the company was thrilled with the result directly boosting the local tourism industry and providing relief to many residents who continue to face challenging conditions.

“At the heart of this campaign is a company-wide commitment to rally support for tourism operators and residents, vital to the ongoing growth of key regions throughout North Queensland. By drawing on our unrivalled reach in the domestic market we were able to promote the region to highly engaged holidaymakers and deliver huge exposure for the campaign, showcasing value-packed holidays with incredible tour experiences unique to each destination,” Mr Thomas said.

“We’re proud this campaign has inspired Australian travellers to re-discover the diverse range of experiences on offer in Tropical North Queensland and boost the tourism industry which is a cornerstone of the local economy.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said campaigns like the one launched in the aftermath of the most recent disaster were crucial to supporting the tourism industry in North Queensland.

“We’re working with tourism operators in North Queensland to grow this vital industry and create jobs for locals,” she said.

“Just last month we saw new economic modelling showing a record number of domestic tourists spent more than ever before in the region. This is a testament to the fact that the work we’re doing is paying off.”

The donation to Vinnies will see local residents have continued support in rebuilding homes and reviving the hearts of their communities thanks to Vinnies volunteers who have been integral in helping Queenslanders and communities for the past 125 years.
